"Punk" hybrid, Lake Merritt, Oakland, 2/6/05

One parent is clearly a Hooded Merganser, but the other is a mystery to me.
I've heard speculation on Barrow's Goldeneye, but ....

This photo, taken just after a dive, shows the head shape with feathers flattened.
